Stir Crazy

I despise winter. I really, really, really do. This weekend has been a mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow. It’s not even the precipitation that bothers me. It’s the deathly, bone-chilling cold. About this time every year, I get the unbelievable urge to move to Phoenix. Yet I stay in the Midwest. Why is that?

Anyway, we got out early yesterday when it was just sleeting and went to the library. After leaving, Eli told daddy he needed to go to the dropbox to drop off his pretend DVDs. Eric looked at the cars behind us and said, “I am sooo not doing that.” Apparently (unlike me), he cares if he looks crazy to complete strangers.

After that, we made a quick Target run, and we have been holed up in the house ever since. I was supposed to have a Passion Party tonight, and I had my edible body pens, vibrating bath balls and massage candles packed up and ready to go. Unfortunately, the hostess called about an hour and a half before the party and said she wanted to reschedule because of the weather. At least she caught me before I put mascara on and loaded up my car.

That’s probably best since Eli has a cold, and he is a little drama king if I have ever seen one. I know Eric breathed a sigh of relief when he found out I was staying home. Last night, we drugged Eli up and gave him ear drops and I rocked and rocked him. Of course as soon as the medicine kicked in, he was wide awake and ready to play.

That’s what I’m afraid will happen tonight. I’m ready for bed, but Eli is cranky and yelling at Georgia for “being mean.” When I asked how she was being mean, he responded, “She’s touching MY cars!” Well sweet Jesus, let’s just take her out back and shoot her.

It still escapes me how you get a four-year-old to understand the concept of sharing.

Now, it’s time for a rousing game of “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Anyone who ever watched Pinky and the Brain will appreciate this.

Eli thinks it’s fun to say “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” and then Eric and I see what creative answers we can come up with. For example, I just said, “Yes, sweetie, but I don’t know where we’re going to find 50 pounds of bananas and a tutu on a Sunday night.” Eric responded with, “Yes, but Eli, I don’t know how you expect me to fit that much sand in the back of our car.”

Then Eli giggles. Oh, how we entertain ourselves. Tomorrow, I desperately need to get out of the house. I may ice skate to the mall.

Neila, I love your blog and I'm a regular reader. I'm located in Wichita, so I know what you mean by the wintery mess.

OH and just so you know I'm in love with Greg Page (Former Yellow Wiggle) and Donovan Patton (Joe from Blue's Clues.) Thanks for making me laugh and not feel so alone and weird for that little fancy there.

Hey, Neila, I've got news for you:

Here in Phoenix, as of 10:48 pm MST, the current temperature is 30 degrees with a wind chill of 20 degrees!

All is not always warm here. Granted, it's not always this cold, but just wanted you to know that we can get some bitter days and nights in December and January.

Ha -- desert songbird has a wind chill!!!! I'm laughing so hard I almost wet myself!
Still, Neila -- I'm with you -- I think we could open a sweet little boutique in Sedona, don't you?

Well, honey, thanks again for making me love your little Eli. What a little treasure/terror.

Today is worse (ice-wise) than it has been, so I'm staying AT HOME with the kitties today.
This is the first time I've had a day OFF to myself in I can't tell you how long, so I am in serious hibernation mode.
I plan on blogging for a while, thanking all the gods for the Caribou Coffee that my favorite Blog Mommy sent me, and then popping in some Buffy on the DVD player and snuggling with the kitties.
(I'm on season 5 of Buffy now - where Glory has just entered the scene - best Buffy villian ever, in my opinion)
Hope you have a good day --
love ya,
Mo

Now here's the difference between people with children and people without... I loved every second of hibernation this weekend due to the wintery mess outside. But that's because I curled up on the couch with a book and a blanket all weekend. I didn't even want to get out of the house and was very bummed this morning that I had to get out and come to work!

Now thats a great game, and I so forgot about Pinky and the Brain.

As for Phoenix, I must say while its great in the winter months, how do you feel about 110 degrees and asphalt in August?

Neila, you could always strap on your cross-country skis and head west. It's still cold, it's still snowy, but the sun is shining.

I say I'd rather have 110 degrees and 5% humidity than that icky 90 degrees and 90% humidity that is the midwestern or southeastern summer any day -- that's why I live in Phoenix and not in FL or IN anymore!

And, yes, Mo, we have wind chill! Come on down and judge for yourself just how cold it feels.

Plllllpft....
