13 Things My Daughter Put In Her Mouth This Week

My daughter is 2 1/2, and even though she's out of the "putting everything in her mouth" stage, she's still quite adventurous. I'm a little concerned about her oral fixation. Yet I can't get her to actually eat food. What the hell?

1. My shirt – She will come up to me and either lick or chew on my shirt. Then she says, “You’re welcome!” and walks away. I don’t get it.

2. Play-Doh – Okay, I used to eat Play-Doh when I was little, so I really can’t fault her for this one.

3. Mud – After coming in from the backyard, she has mud all over her face, lips and teeth. Why exactly is that appetizing?

4. Chalk – As much chalk as this child eats, I should just serve it for dinner.

5. Markers – You’ve seen the pictures.

6. Cat food – She will actually push the cats out of the way if they are trying to eat because she gets mad that they’re eating her food.

7. Pennies – I try to hide all coinage, but if she finds one, she pops it into her mouth, shows it to me, then runs. I think she thinks it’s funny to have me chase her even though she’s in trouble.

8. Eli’s toothbrush – Eli has a suction cup Crayola toothbrush that Georgia loves to play with.

9. Candy from the floor at school – She can spot candy on the floor a mile away and usually pops it in her mouth before I can stop her.

10. Silly Putty – Again, I used to chew on this stuff, too. It’s an interesting consistency.

11. Wooden toast – She has a pretend toaster and likes to chew on the pretend toast that are basically wooden blocks. But I can’t get her to eat real toast.

12. Sour milk – She found a sippy cup under her bed and drank half of what was left before she handed it to me and said, “Yucky.” Dude! It was clumpy, yet she took several sips!

13. A toilet paper roll – Usually she uses it as a telescope. I’m not quite sure what the heck she was doing with it this week.

My kids stuck everything in their mouths -- and to this day, when they are grown, there isn't a pen cap visible in our house that hasn't been chewed into oblivion. I've heard that it helps them "think". uh huh.....!
Cute TT!

The taste test is usually the first test kids give any object they come across. Our daughter used to push the dog out of the way to get to the dog food.

This too shall pass, usually the next day into their diaper. :-D Fun idea for a TT.

I used to eat weird stuff too---dog kibble and sand were on the list and mud as well! I survived, as you see!

Emma's got an oral fixation, too (she'll be 3 next month). The other day when I told her to go get in the car, I found her in the garage putting the snow in her mouth, that had fallen off my husband's car. You know, the black snow covered in dirt and grease?

Yum.

#1 was a mouther but #2 hasn't been that bad. Except she does do a pretty good job cleaning her discarded meals off the floor if I leave it there long enough....

I don't know about eating, but my almost 7-year-old still puts things in her mouth and chews on them... One habit I really wish I could find a way to break her of!

I used to LOVE the taste of play-doh!
Never tried to eat Silly Putty, though...

The first one made laugh out loud, "you're welcome" that is funny!!

Yesterday, Hunter tried to put the "fencing" I have around some flowers in his mounth, no hands just leaned over and put his mouth over it...

Those are funny! My son is just about 3 now and how quickly you forget! I remember how he used to do that when he was a bit younger.

The worst was when he used to put his face down in the sandbox and come up with a mouthful! Ugh!

Oh Dear! I'd be losing hair! I guess I'm lucky I didn't have any of these.
Good Luck and she must keep you on your toes!
