The Potty Hat

Now that Georgia is 2 ½, I get asked the same questions everywhere I go. “How is the potty training going?”

*sigh* I am really starting to get tired of this. If you remember, we did buy Georgia the Dora potty, thinking that would make things better. Well, she definitely has other ideas.

We are working on it, but dude! Why does EVERY single person want to know the progress of my daughter’s toilet issues? Is that really their business? Here are a few of the questions/comments that irk me.

** “Have you tried (insert annoying tip here)?” Everyone has their own system and they feel the need to share it with you in a tone that says, “I did it right, and you’re obviously doing it wrong.”

** “MY child potty-trained herself, and she didn’t need diapers at 18 months old!” I usually respond by saying, “Wow, that’s great!” instead of “Could you pat yourself on the back any harder, you big fat liar!”

** “I thought girls were supposed to be easier than boys.” This is the comment I probably get the most! And I don’t know who came up with this generalization because I think potty training is f*cking hard, no matter what gender your child happens to be.

And last but not least, I often get asked, “Does Georgia use her potty?” To this, I honestly answer, “Oh yes! She uses it every day!” I just don’t happen to share that she “uses” it by putting it on her head, dancing around in circles and shouting, “I’m a cowboy! Yee-haw!”

I was a tough one to train, according to my parents, and look at how I turned out!

Didn't mean to scare ya....

I'm in the same boat, the peanut (my 2 1/2 yrd old son) has an Elmo Potty and brings it to his bed plays with it, sits next to it, watches Calloui sitting in it...but WONT USE IT TO GO POTTY!! Ayyy Veyyy...but I think all kidding aside, if you put a little but of effort into it and they know where they're supposed to go, they will be fine -- eventually it will happen. But I feel for you, I am not answering my cousins remark, "still funding the Huggies Corp I see." Yeah and so what...

You're right - toilet training is tough all the way around, regardless of gender, age, and the child's personality. All I can say is stick with it - it'll get better.

I've found, through my own kids and ones I've babysat, that boys are easier. You can make a game of it with boys... "Look, aim at that tire like the dog does" (I've always lived in the country), or, "Here, pee on that stick." Girls don't have anything to point. Takes the fun out of things.

Listen, I've seen very bright kids that wore diapers until they were three, or older. If you can afford the diapers and don't mind changing them, don't worry about what anybody tells you. Eventually she WILL train herself.

Hang in there!!! I didn't go through the potty training questionnaire by others but my son had a pacifier until he was older and every single person had a stupid opinion on that.

Unless they wanted to spend the day with him without it then they should shut up. One day he threw it out himself and never looked back.

I, of course, have no potty training assvice for you. BUT, I do have to say, that I think Georgia is hilarious and if she wants to wear her potty on her head I say more power to her.

All kids are different Neila. Yep, they are all bragging. I must say that she is using her potty in a very cute way. I'm thinking I would laugh out loud watching her. Bwahahahahah. Have a great day. :)

I can SOOOO totally relate!! I have a 2 1/2 year old that is in the midst of potty training (when she feels like it) too and I'm SO tired of everyone asking how it's going, saying we should do this or do that, blah blah. Some days she does great and will tell us when she needs the potty, she wears pull ups (big girl undies) when she does and other days, like today, she just goes in her diaper all day long. Some people say if they go on the potty then to stick them in real undies and if they feel pee run down their leg they won't like it and will learn. My stay-home-hubby doesn't want to do that though, I guess if I was the one home who had to clean that up I'd say no way too...hang in there, from what I hear from EVERYONE is "she'll get it eventually, you don't see kids go off to kindergarten in diapers they all get it eventually". I hope she gets it before preschool starts next fall. :)

Oh My Goodness that is too funny. I could barely get back in my chair to comment! Well as long as she gets it that's all that matters, not how.
Just give them the 'Talk To The Hand' and go on. They will always have something to comment on. I sympathize with you.
