My 13 Favorite Movie Soundtracks

These are all soundtracks I own and still listen to. This also got me thinking – why the heck don’t they make good movie soundtracks anymore? Before you all say, “Where’s Grease?!!” I decided not to include musicals. Xanadu doesn’t count, does it? I linked my favorite song on each soundtrack to YouTube. Enjoy!! (You also get a list of honorable mentions because I had a very hard time narrowing it down.)

1. Pretty In Pink
Song: Pretty In Pink by The Psychedelic Furs

2. Say Anything
Song: In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel

3. The Wedding Singer
Song: Video Killed The Radio Star (sung by) The Presidents of USA

4. Sleepless in Seattle
Song: When I Fall in Love (sung by) Celine Dion and Clive Griffin

5. Xanadu
Song: Suddenly (sung by) Olivia Newton-John

6. Footloose
Song: Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler

7. Pretty Woman
Song: Wild Women Do by Natalie Cole

8. The Lost Boys
Song: People Are Strange (sung by) Echo

9. Love Actually
Song: Here With Me by Dido

10. Dirty Dancing
Song: The Time of My Life by Jennifer Warnes

11. Grosse Point Blank
Song: Blister in the Sun by Violent Femmes

12. I Am Sam
Song: Blackbird (sung by) Sarah McLachlan (I sang this song to my son when he was a baby. *sniff*)

13. Saturday Night Fever
Song: Boogie Shoes by K.C. and the Sunshine Band

Honorable Mentions:
Purple Rain
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Almost Famous
Flashdance
The Bodyguard
Hope Floats
When Harry Met Sally

Great topic! I have several of these soundtracks or individual songs. Especially love 2, 3, 9, and 11. :)

Happy TT!

OMG!! I found another SAHM. Wow. And here I was thinking I was the only one here.

Anyway, I have heard of those songs, but ... none of them are in my music style. It's a good list tho. :)

You need to add the soundtrack to Charlie's Angels (the first one with Drew Barrymore, etc.) The second one is good too, but the first is great.

Happy Thursday!

ok I think Xanadu barely counts as a movie.

Say Anything is the best on this list. Your fave was our wedding song, just not sung by Peter Gabriel.

GrossePointe is great because it so fits the movie

All your 80s soundtracks are perfect for this list, though I think Purple Rain would bump one of them.

How cool is it that the violent femmes appear on your list twice?

Yes, the Lost Boys, Holding Out For A Hero, Say Anything -- and OF COURSE Pretty in Pink! They are great soundtracks!

I have quite a few of those! Great list!!

I'd also have to add "One Fine Day"

Ooo, I love the Psych Furs - they remind me of my first true love, Niall.

"In Your Eyes" was hubby's and my wedding song! Everyone was so surprised we didn't dance to a U2 song, but this one really stuck with us.

Good list! Mine is up, and it'll give you an idea of what my first week of vacation has been like... Ian actually gave me another list for a Thursday Thirteen that I think I might do next week - 13 medications the doc has given someone in the family in the last month...

Great list of soundtracks.

And I would congratulate you on Kansas, but I'm afraid I'm sitting here watching UCLA dash your hopes for a Final 4.

And now my bracket is totally busted.
