Manic Monday - Independence

This week's Manic Monday word is Independence. I could have gone patriotic, but I was reminded this weekend of how strong-willed my children are. When Eli was about two, he needed to do everything himself. If I tried to do anything for him, he would scream, "ELI DO IT!"

His sister is no different. Their double birthday party was this weekend (that's a blog in itself) at Wonderscope. Georgia was not content to stay with the group of children, and was fully prepared to go off and do her own thing. When we tried to help her with anything, she would let out a very shrill scream and then yell, "DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!" God forbid mommy should try to do anything for her. Sweet Lord!

Normally, this post would be longer, but I am typing this Sunday night and I am completely exhausted from the weekend. Instead, enjoy this video, a song that perfectly describes the personality of my independent little girl.

Gee, my first American Idol anything! I've never watched the show, don't listen to the music, and have never even seen clips other than parodies. I don't even listen to Kelli Clarkson on the radio!

It's not a bad thing that your kids want to exhibit independence, but it is frustrating at times, I know. Just let them do, and eventually they'll do it the correct or accepted way.

Or not.

I am reminded of my own kids when you describe yours. Very strong willed and independent. I was told that children that fit this mold are very intelligent and "leaders", not followers :) Have a wonderful week, Neila!! Happy 4th too.

Fortunately you didn't go patriotic, lol ! Today I "read" already at least 5 consitutions and I am not american. I prefer reading about your children and it's very nice when they become independent at an early age. That helps in life !

My hooman brother wants to do everything independent, too. He tries... and if it doesn´t work the way he wants to (placing a round building brick on a triangular...) he screeeeeams.

I´m a very musical woofie... thanks for the great tunes, Miss Neila!

It's funny - everyone who's done MM either posted about political independence or the independence of their children. Nice post, Neila.

I'm all too familiar with the independence of a 2 year old having one of my own! haha...everything is "me do it" or "emma do it"...lately it's also "grandpa do it" or "grandma do it" if we're out shopping with one of them...anyone but mommy do it if anyone else is around! ha ha
I forgot how much I love Kelly's voice and that song!

Don't worry, when they turn teenagers they will need you to do everything then. Oh they get so lazy it makes you crazy. Cute post on independence. Have a happy and safe Independence Day. :)

Thanks for the great tunes. Love Kelly Clarkson.

"Independent Women" by Destiny´s Child is one of my fave "independent" songs

Great post. It's amazing that children seem to come equipped with a full blown personality. I have one clinger and one independent and they were that way from birth.
