Miss Manic Monday

This week’s Manic Monday word is Miss, and I am going to do my best to work that word into my latest WTF moment.

As you all know, my kids watch the Noggin channel nonstop. Some of the shows I find incredibly annoying (Max & Ruby, anyone?), and some of the shows I absolutely love (Miss Spider). Every few months, they introduce a new show. The last new show was The Upside Down Show. I’m still trying to figure out why Australian guys have the monopoly on children’s entertainment, but I digress. It’s a cute show.

Next month, Nick Jr. (Noggin) is introducing another new show. It is called Yo Gabba Gabba.

Dude! Seriously! I think people must sit around a table and smoke the crackpipe, and then come up with ideas for new kids shows. I found a clip of it on YouTube. So you tell me. This is about the most bizarre frickin thing I have ever seen!

What the F*CK was that?!!!! That green monster-looking thing is downright scary. Here is another clip featuring just him. It doesn't help that I am so morbidly fascinated, it’s not even funny. Like it’s a car accident. Or Lindsay Lohan’s career.

What’s even worse is that every time the commercial comes on, my children are riveted to the television. Not cool, people. Not. Cool! It’s like the f*cking Boobahs all over again. This one may actually push me over the edge.

So, what is my plan? My plan is that I am going to do everything in my power to make sure my children MISS this show every single day!

I'll have to come back to view the videos. When Vista quits opening things it flat quits. Drat. Have a great MM. :)

Oh, I so see the boobahs! :( Blaaahhh!!! That show was so freakin' annoying.

I hope my kids miss it as well.

This cannot be good for child size brains ... it is too hypnotic with little interaction ... miss it by at least a mile.

Good MM on Miss.

OMG--I'm with you on this one. We watch Disney and PBS Sprout and I will NOT miss the shows once my kids outgrow them. I'm a bit sad about the Wiggles breaking up though. Have a great Monday, Neila.

I have four kids and so I'm totally cracking up over this post. I agree with the following:

Max and Ruby is gawd-awful. Max needs to smack the shit out of Ruby a good one. She is an intolerable shrew.

Miss Spider is a great show. It's the only show with spiders on it that doesn't give me the heebie jeebies.

Australian guys have totally taken over children's television and I'm okay with this because most of them are hot. In particular... that sexy Anthony from the Wiggles.

Oh. And Captain Feathersword, too. He's hot.

LOL!

*runs away screaming*

I'm SOOOOOO glad my kids are Thomas the Tank Engineaholics and really nothing else kid-oriented.

I can deal with Thomas.

I don't know these shows, but what is on your two videos is really very bad ! As you say, not even funny !

Our family is super excited for Yo Gabba Gabba, we live in Southern California and were invited to a premiere of the pilot episode where we met the people responsible for making the show. These are all really creative and family oriented people who are trying to bring back some of the fun and energy that Sesame Street used to have. It's sad that you have chosen to make an uninformed judgement and reference drug use and Lindsy Lohan without ever having seen an entire episode. Good luck with that.

Not quite sure what planet the previous commenter is from, but I thought your post was well done and very cute. :)

Thanks for doing Manic Monday!

I am just glad my kids are past that stage of TV "entertainment".

They are now into movies and stuff that is probably worse. LOL

Good Post.

Later Y'all

Miss Spider is a dream. Some of that stuff is... well, you're right. They're all on crack.

Oooooo! My first hate comment! How fun! Doesn't it mean you are moving up in the world when people start to attack you? Allow me to revel in my success! Woo hoo!

Yo Gabba Gabba? Hahaha!

I think the last video you have there was meant to make kids eat their veggies. What is funny was that food is happy being eaten. Would we be smiling like that when a tiger decides that we should have a party in its tummy? Hahaha!

Whatever happened to Sesame Street and Bob the Builder?

why is it that people hide under "anonymous" when they leave nasty comments? I mean, seriously, that video just screams "crack is whack" -- if I had kids, I'd keep them away from that train wreck...

OMG!!! I'm SO with you on this entire post, especially with the Max & Ruby hatred and the love of Miss Spider. I too think someone hits the crack before thinking up some of the the other shows. That Yo Gabba Gabba looks like a freakish teletubbies re-make or something! Yikes!

Children's shows have really, really gotten strange lately. Glad my kids are older and we miss all these new ones!

Good luck keeping your kids away!

I was watching this and thinking about the Boobahs and how acid tripping it is... then I scrolled down and finished the post and realized I wasn't the only one thinking that.

I don't get it.

On second thought, was HR Puffinstuff and Sigmund & the Sea Monstsers this bad????

YO...?!?! WTF??? Who??? WHY??? I´m sorry, Neila. I guess the colorful monsters hypnotized me...

What happened to the good old Muppet´s and Sesame Street???

My daughter just came over and asked what I was watching, then she said, "Oh yea, that's Yo Gabba Gabba!"

SHOOT ME, just shoot me now!:D

You are hee-larry-us!
Can't stop laughing....I am SO glad my youngest (8 1/2yrs) is out of the preschool cartoon phase. Although, I have to admit....I do a friggin awesome Ruby voice! And don't EVEN let me break out my Elmo skills. I bet my kids miss me singing "THAT'S ELMO'S WOOOORRRLD!" at the top of my lungs everyday......NOT!

One wonders why some of these shows have to be so irritating to adults in order to entertain children!

I LOVE that show! Love it!! We got to see a sneak preview of the premier episode and we all love it! Wait till it comes out on August 20th and watch a whole episode and give it a chance. It is way, way, way, WAY less annoying than most of the stuff my kids watch, like Caillou, for example.

Qtpies7 said...

Oh my gosh, I hope thats on cable and not PBS, because I never want to be subjected to that horror. Its worse than Barney!

Sunrunner said...

Well, as the anonymous commenter probably/hopefully doesn't know is that most drug addicts DO start seeing crap like that when they're on a bad trip!! And no, I haven't seen a complete episode either, I just have to deal with crazy drug addicts all night long!!!

I applaud the creators' efforts, but I will continue to encourage my kids to watch the Disney and Discovery channels, thanks.

I love your blog in fact!

I'm really looking forward to seeing a full episode of "Yo Gabba Gabba." I know it looks different, but it's gotten a lot of buzz over the last 8 or so months.

Not all of kids TV is out to babysit children while their parents get stuff done. (Noggin is actually one of the few networks that prides itself on educational content). Music, in particular, provides an opportunity for repetition and reinforcement of key educational messages. This grabs the attention of the viewer and encourages them to participate, fostering retention (it's like Rote memorization, set to a catchy tune).
